A cheap instrument is not a fun instrument.

There is a perception out there in Crazyland that a ukulele should be $30 and come from Bunnings.  No.  Just no.  The damage this causes to would-be ukulele players is incalculable.  The problem is that a cheap ukulele will sound cheap, play like crap, and won't stay in tune for more than a few minutes, if at all.  When you are trying to learn, these problems are painful and take the fun out of it.

On the other hand, there is no need to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on your first ukulele.  You can get a perfectly good sounding ukulele for a hundred bucks or so, maybe two if you want something fancier.  For example, you can get a nice Kala Voyage Series Ukulele for right around $200.  These are nice ukuleles that will get you going and keep you going for many years.

If you really want to keep things affordable, check out our line of Makala ukuleles.  These are made by Kala but are perhaps a bit more mass produced than their other ukuleles.  These are good, fun ukuleles that are great for beginners. Most are around $100 or so.

While we are at it, we have some Ohana ukuleles that are perfect for beginners.  It's easy to spend $500 on an Ohana uke but that's not necessary, get an SK-10S instead and get a feel for the instrument before moving on to the big money.

But what do you do if you only have a Bunnings cheapie?  First thing, don't feel bad about it.  Do the best you can with what you have.  Often, you can use a tiny screwdriver to tighten up the tuning knobs and that might resolve a lot of your issues, for the moment.  Start saving up to $100 - $150 and get in touch with me and I'll personally help you out.  (rich@ukulelewarehouse.com)

Note that we simply don't sell "cheap" ukuleles. I can't take responsibility for ruining someone's ukulele journey.  Therefore, you can buy with confidence from Ukulele Warehouse.  All of our ukuleles are good players, price being a key indicator of overall quality and sound but, to put it crudely, none of them suck.  None.

So there you have it!
